This is an Addis Ababa institution. The oldest hotel in the city founded in 1898 by the empress Taitu. People came and enjoyed the empress’ hospitality but were ten shocked to be given a bill.  Not the kind of hospitality they expected.

I’m staying here in a huge room with a balcony which hasn’t changed much since the empress’ time.  Some guests comment that the plumbing hasn’t changed much either.  Its now in a lively part of town with bars lining the street.
