A meeting

It’s been a full week meeting people and preparing.  I was honoured to meet the Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, His Holiness Abuna Mathiwos.  My colleague Kumelachew and I went to the Patriarchate at8.30 am.  We approached up an imposing staircase, through two offices and a waiting room, before being admitted.  The Patriarch sat on a large chair with two rows of armchairs in front of him, a real audience chamber.  I presented the letter of greeting from our Archbishop and we talked for a while in a mixture of English and Amharic with at times a more rapid conversation with Kumelachew.  He was especially interested in ideas for continuing relationships with groups or churches in the UK.  I definitely feel that I have approval for the research project now.
