Welcome.  I delighted that you’ve found your way to this blog.

If you are an old friend,  I look forward to keeping in touch.  If you have come across this by chance, then let me introduce myself.  I’m John Binns, a vicar in Cambridge, and I’ve known, and love, the people and country of Ethiopia over twenty years.

I’m visiting Ethiopia through the autumn, and will record some of the people, places and experiences on this blog.  I want to see how this ancient and rich culture is adapting to being a modern and changing society.  I’m interested in the church – the only pre-colonial church in sub-Saharan Africa, and its oral education system; in poor communities as they adapt and change; in kids in schools and what its like for them;  in Islam and how it expresses itself.  This should keep me busy.

More to come.  Keep in touch.  Let me have your comments and reactions.
